When there's something on your mind...

When there's something on your mind...

Monday, March 24, 2025

The saying of "I think, therefore I am" uttered by René Descartes all those moons ago; I mean, it's right, but the oft overlooked element of this is the part where it is rearranged and tinkered with, thus:

"I am, therefore, *what* I think".

This is something many of us have heard before in some way or another:

- You become what you think about

- Thoughts become feelings

You know the drill, yet don't we love to ignore it?

Here is a little thought experiment for you. Humour me; it wont take long.

Take a moment to think about the most dreadful thing you've read or seen recently. Something that sticks out from the last week of news, perhaps. Give it just the briefest moment of your attention.

Can you feel it? How does recalling that news make you feel when you are imagining that situation all over again? How's your mood?

Don't dwell on that for a moment longer though... second part of the thought experiment, coming right up. 😘

Now scroll your mind back to your most elated moment, perhaps a special day, or a favourite holiday... wallow in all it's loveliness.

Can you feel *that*? How's your mood now?

Consider the different waves of feelings which washed over and through you with each of those experiments.

I know there are lots of you that already know this, but for those of you who really, really struggle with what you feel is an overpowering, mind; if you have been able to conduct this thought experiment, you've just discovered a new muscle which you can exercise. And it's going to start to make you feel a whole lot better, a whole lot more often.

What's happened here is that you have taken back control of your mind, maybe only for the briefest of moments. But you can do it again, and again... and again.

The reason for this is because you are not your mind, you are its witness. You hear it speak, and you watch it paint pictures. And yet, you've forgotten you are also its owner. Its controller. Its master.

I'll prove it. Another thought experiment:

- Picture an orchid.

- Say 'apples' to yourself.

- Contemplate the texture of sandpaper.

- Recall the taste of strawberries on your tongue.

- Imagine the smell of coffee, freshly brewed.

That was cool, wasn't it! You did that. You made your mind experience all of those senses, with absolutely no problem whatsoever.

The mind is yours, and you can do with it what you wish. Why not use it for good, then? It'll take practice, and you can do that any time you like. So start today, think fabulous thoughts, and when your mind starts trying to exert its false power over you, remember you can show it who's boss.

You become what you think about, so think happy, think courageous, think expansion, and think goodness.

There, I feel better now. Thanks for indulging me.

Have a beautiful day.

Big Love. X

Carl.
